Moulin Roty: beautiful toys for more than 40 years
Moulin Roty is a toy brand with a special story. We have heard many great stories about the creation of brands, but this story is just a little bit more special. It was born out of a beautiful collaboration between creative people who accidentally designed a beautiful toy car and a fabric doll. Despite a major setback, they carried on and have built a wonderful brand over the years. Here we tell you a bit about the history of this French toy brand.
It all started in 1970 when a group of friends started a common project looking for a new way of living and working together. In 1970, they bought an old mill, refurbished it together and started a residential community with all the families. The mill had a beautiful workshop where the creative members of the commune produced all kinds of products. They made screen prints, lamps, jewellery, decorative items, etc. But there were two products that caused a change...
One creative member of the group had made a small toy car by hand. A car with a wooden chassis and the top made of foam. Visitors to trade fairs were in awe of this child-friendly baby toy. Soon, Moulin Roty received an order of 1500 pieces. This was a sign for them to do more with toys. They designed another cloth doll and this one was also very popular. They decided in 1975 to focus more on children's room decoration. They made wooden paintings, clocks and wooden stacking toys.
Unfortunately, in 1988, the brand suffered a major setback. A big fire raged in the studio and nothing was spared. All the documents, drawings and designs are lost, but they don't give up and open a new workplace. Moulin Roty is a strong company and knows how to continue.
In 1996, the brand launches a new concept: toys that are inspired by the past but fit the needs of today. Nostalgic toys with a new look. Toys that the parents and grandparents of the children used to play with during their childhood.
Moulin Roty Mouse Mimi, the symbol
Decoration made more and more room for toys. Moulin Roty mouse Mimi was added to La Grande Famille and became the new symbol of the brand. In the years that followed, the collection expanded and the brand grew. From sales abroad to its own shop. Meanwhile, the brand is extremely popular. The universe consists of eight different themes, each with its own special products. There are wooden toys, cuddly toys, baby toys, craft toys and more.
